An intruder was stopped in their tracks seeking entry into the home of Rep. Elijah Cummings last Saturday.  Having been alerted by the home security system, Cummings shouted at the individual and they ran off.  The Maryland congressman was unharmed, fortunately. News of the situation began to spread more widely after Pres. Trump brushed off criminal behavior  in a tweet about the incident.  "Too bad," he scoffed.

Cummings addressed the incident in a statement released to the Baltimore Sun:


“An individual attempted to gain entry into my residence at approximately 3:40 AM on Saturday, July 27," the statement said. "I was notified of the intrusion by my security system, and I scared the intruder away by yelling before the person gained entry into the residential portion of the house. I thank the Baltimore Police Department for their response and ask that all further inquiries be directed to them.”

Really bad news! The Baltimore house of Elijah Cummings was robbed. Too bad!

Trump ranted on Twitter last week about Cummings' leadership, calling it corrupt and said Baltimore, a city in Cummings' 7th district is rat-infested.

The Sun reports that while the House of Representatives is on a break, Cummings has been busy interacting in the local community.

Trump told the press on Tuesday, "Those people are living in hell."

Some see the president's latest comment as  condoning illegal activity and encouraging harm. They  want Twitter to enforce its policy on hate speech.
