LOAN ELIGIBILITY FOR HBCUS
At a White House Initiative on HBCUs event in DC on Tuesday Pres. DonaldTrump announced 40 faith based institutions will no longer be restricted from tapping into federal funding for construction projects, a crucial factor for growth. Removing this barrier allows seminaries to have equal access to federal capital through loan programs. The DOJ recently noted an option that previously blocked the schools from such loans, which was declared unconstitutional.
CHINA AND TARIFFS
China is offering tariff exemptions, a small sign of relief and slight show of compromise ahead of the UN General Assembly meeting where trade talks with the US may resume next week after nearly two years of battling. Both countries have started to bleed economically from the tariff tussle. Starting September 17 several products people use every day will be eligible for exemption including whey, and a number of medicines and insecticides.
SEPTEMBER 11 OBSERVANCE
On Wednesday at the White House flags are flying at half staff marking the 18th anniversary of the September 11th terror attack.
In a remebrance ceremony on the premises of the Pentagon where terrorism struck 18 years ago the president issued a fastidious warning to would-be terrorists saying they will be met with force, "The likes of which have never been seen before." This just days after he cancelled a peace meeting with the Taliban -- well acquainted with Al Qaeda, the group that carried out the 2001 attacks against the US that claimed thousands of lives. This past June Congress passed the Victims Compensation Act to ensure first responders who became ill in recovery efforts could pay their medical expenses.
PERSONNEL PROBLEMS
The pink slip du jour at goes to National Security Adviser John Bolton. Bolton, who frequently disagreed with the POTUS and was a suspected press leaker was fired from White House duties on Tuesday. Trump said major differences on foreign policy led to his dismissal and he is now vetting 5 highly qualified prospects. In the meantime, WH spokesman Hogan Gidley said Bolton's assistant Charles Kupperman is the acting successor.
More than just blowing smoke...vaping— a form of cigarette teplacement has been linked to a 6th death in the US according to the CDC. In response, Pres. and First Lady Melania Trump met with officials to discuss banning all non-tobacco flavored vaping.
